Andrea Binning

Growing up in Australia and being a sponsored athlete for Roxy/Quiksilver, you’d think Andrea would be a pro surfer. Well, guess again. She grew up skiing the top ski area down under, Mount Hotham, and trained as a GS racer through her pre-pubescence years. When hot-dogging came to town, she switched over to bump-skiing, and the combination of the two techniques opened the doors for one of the world's most solid freeskiers.

She started spending her ‘summers’ (that’s winter to us in the Northern Hemisphere) in Chamonix, and put her solid background to use, adapting her skiing to all-mountain terrain. Skiing became a year-round sport for her and when the ‘Extreme’ contest scene got ripe in North America, it was Andrea who showed up in Alaska and won the 2000 World Extreme Skiing Championships. Her list of contest successes is too long to list, but that’s just another chapter in her skiing.

Since then, she has been spending her seasons on the move, traveling the world over, and skiing in front of the cameras. Both photo and film images of this ‘Bronzed Aussie’ ripping steep powder in Alaska and sailing off fat cliffs from Colorado to New Zealand are everywhere.
