Tor Eggboe
When we started putting this ski team together, we decided we need a Viking. And hailing from the northern Norwegian town of Tromso, Tor is the perfect man for BD. Skiing all winter ( which is like ten months long up there) in the backcountry, usually in the blistering cold and earning his turns by skinning up into the rugged mountains of the North , this is the kind of ‘pillage and plunder’ approach to the backcountry we respect.
And when the nights last all day long in the Northern winters, Tor takes his powerful yet smooth skiing to some other areas. He and his crew of Vikings head out every month for at least a month and go ‘down South’ to the Alps to take the places by storm. They look for less known areas, where they’ll be guaranteed freshies, and don’t leave town until they’ve tracked out every line in sight.
And in the springtime (which begins in May up there), they get on a boat and set sail to some isolated coastal glacier and loot the peaks for ‘white gold’. Skiing up there has as long a history as the Vikings and the passion for living the skier lifestyle is personified in Tor. He has a segment every season in the Norwegian ski film ‘Kong Vinter’ and is also showcased in a few Scandinavian ski magazines. And working the night-shift all summer in a mental hospital to save up for another season on the snow will only make him crazier when he starts dropping fat cliffs and pillaging the powder. This may explain his passion for surfing the almost-freezing waves in Norway. Keep up with what’s going on with Tor on his weblogs at www.bigtrix.com
